We sign off this year with great pride in what we have achieved. The building of Freshwater Village has started to take shape. We are very excited!
In early February this year, we announced that we had reached an agreement with the City of Moreton Bay Council on the upgrade of Brays Rd, and we had awarded the civil works contract to Hall Contracting (now SEE Civil). This milestone had been the culmination of many years of hard work by Wattle Run in making the vision of Freshwater a reality.
The first half of the year saw construction interrupted by weather, particularly Cyclone Alfred. Despite this, we have seen Arcadia Drive, our new linking road to Wesley Road, effectively complete construction. The upgrade to Brays Road has been far more complex than we all expected, with services infrastructure needing relocation, all while delicately managing live vehicle traffic.
Early 2026 will see traffic being moved to the northern side of Brays Road to allow reconstruction of the southern verge and the Cairns Road intersection. These works will include relocating the water main. We are expecting the Brays Road upgrade to be completed by mid-2026. The opening date for Arcadia Drive has not yet been determined, as the safety of the public and motorists is the highest priority. Whilst the building works for the shopping centre progress. We are committed to opening the road as soon as it is safe to do so.
In September, we announced the appointment of Tomkins Commercial and Industrial as the builder of Freshwater Village. Tomkins is a local company that has a great reputation for quality construction. These two facets were key in our selection of Tomkins. Although recent weather affected early progress, the retaining wall on the western boundary is complete, and building footings are well underway.
The first quarter next year will see the concrete tilt panels and structural steel go up. At this point, we will be able to see the form and scale of the shopping centre. By mid-2026, much of the exterior of the buildings will be well advanced. The current building program has an opening scheduled for early to mid-2027.
We welcome our tenants to Freshwater Village. During the year, we announced several new businesses joining us at the Village. We are very excited for them, and we are sure the community will embrace what you have to offer. We only have a few vacant tenancies left. In due course, we will announce the last few to join our great community.
We want to convey our sincere thanks to the neighbours of our project and to the motorists who use Brays Road every day. Without your cooperation and support, the year would have been more challenging than it already is. Thank you for your patience.
Finally, we take this opportunity to thank those helping Wattle Run deliver this project. Without them, this would not be possible. We thank SEE Civil, Tomkins, Project Strategies Australia, Contour Consulting Engineers, CCN Architects, Dunn and Moran Landscape Architects, MNG LandPartners, and all the other experts we have relied upon up to this point. Thank you.
On behalf of Wattle Run and the Freshwater Hub Team. We would like to wish you all a happy and safe Christmas. We look forward to providing the community with more exciting updates in the New Year.
