Updated: Jul 6, 2023

Wattle Run is proud to launch the Mural @ The Sheds art competition today with $8500 up for grabs to the winning artist who will transform a large, corrugated iron wall into a visual masterpiece.

Wattle Run The Sheds at Brendale Mural Art Competition

The wall, located at The Sheds at Brendale, will become a feature of the industrial urban precinct that is home to restaurant My Oh My, The Coffee Hut and Hip Hops Brewers, who will open later this year.

Dr Jennifer Fisher, Director, Wattle Run said we’re looking for an edgy and colourful mural that harmonises with its surroundings for our tin orb wall in the Lane Way at The Sheds.

“This is what we’ve tried to achieve in our outdoor spaces, gardens that harmonise with the Sheds that we’ve reinvented to become a destination to eat, drink, shop and celebrate in North Brisbane.

“The lush gardens up against The Sheds are a feature of the precinct which is why we have themed the competition – The taming of industry – Nature reclaiming industry,” she said.

Dr Fisher said the competition is open to anyone over 18 years old with the capabilities to produce a large mural on corrugated iron.

“From the entries, a judging panel will select four finalists with the public having the final say, via an online voting platform, on who wins.

“We really wanted to use this competition to engage with the locals giving them a say in what the precinct would look like,” she said.

At the completion of the mural, an exhibition will be held showcasing the top 25 artworks. These will be made available to the public for sale with all proceeds going back to the artists.

“We are proudly supported by Wattyl Paints who will supply the artist with the exterior paint they’ll need to produce their mural on our wall,” she said.

“We have a fantastic judging panel, including talented Adelaide Artist Leah Grant and Councillor Cath Tonks, to help us pick the four shortlisted mural pieces that will go out for public vote.

“It’s big, it’s bold and it’s definitely going to be a statement piece for The Sheds and North Brisbane, and we’re excited for the right creative to make the area pop!” Dr Fisher said.
